Going ALL IN
Let me tell you a secret. The key to getting everything you want in life is GOING ALL IN. Yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, you are reading this right. Hey, it’s not that much of a secret. It’s only that none of us rarely implement it and go all in. This is the knowledge that has been pushed around so often. You have come across articles and books on this subject. You heard someone talk and explained this multitude of times. Or you already know that going all in is the key to unbridled achievements. From finding the courage to ask for that raise to running a 4-minute mile. You name it, all of those that have reached lofty goals, has gone all in. Even the kid that aced her math exam, went all in.
Going all in brings together these 4 factors to achieve anything. These are the gatekeepers to your achievements.
Know your objective or purpose.
How can you fully commit when you don’t know what you want to commit to. When New Year’s Day comes around we often hear friends take on resolutions and more often than not, losing weight is one of the top resolutions. ‘’I want to lose 20 pounds’’. This is not only at the beginning of the year, its all year round. Some go even a little further in their objectives, past the amount of weight. ‘’I want to fit in my bathing suit this summer at the beach’’.
The objective or purpose must touch you deeply. It must hurt inside when you experience obstacles. It must push you beyond your threshold, beyond your comfort zone and beyond that line, you drew in the sand that you never tried to cross.
The bathing suit will not be enough to support you through difficult periods. Wanting to lose 20lbs will not push you past your limits. Living a long and healthy life will. Spending more time with your children will. You don’t want to lose 20lbs, you want a healthy life. Losing weight is part of the journey to a healthy life. Being able to spend quality time with your loved ones is.
What is your ‘’WHY’’.
Your ‘’why’’ is what keeps pulling at your hearts strings. Like your objectives and purpose, it drives you beyond any barrier. Your ‘’why’’ will forever be yours and no one can ever steal it from you. It’s inside your mind and heart.
You need to understand and internalize your why. I often see people take action without fully understanding their why. They draw up these elaborate plans and even start to take actions on them without really knowing the impact that this new journey will have on them. Knowing your why for this endeavour is what will protect your mind from outside influences.
Your ‘’why’’ will be the light that will push you forward when failure creeps in. It will generate perseverance when times become challenging. Without your ‘’why’’, faith in accomplishing your goal will start to disappear and make each step feel heavy to the point of abandoning.
Change your mindset
Preconceived notions and opinions of others are not what moves mountains. We look outside for answers that can only be answered from within. All the self-help books are worthless until you change your mindset.
Your mind is the most powerful part of the human body. No other organ, muscle or tissue does so much for us. It’s the conductor of the human symphony. Always present, consciously and unconsciously. It’s that little voice inside you saying, ‘’go ahead, everything is cool’’ or ‘’stop, you feel tired’’. Your mind has the power to stop you in your tracks. It can also push you past the physical and mental pain toward anything you set your mind to.
Your mindset has to be aligned with your Why and your purpose. You need to want and feel this more than anything you ever wanted.
Accept failure
When do you learn the most? You learn from failure. Those that never experience failure will never triumph over anything. They will never grow past what was thrust onto them. Their life will be managed by others.
Being afraid of failure is being afraid to grow. Never failing hypnotizes people in thinking they are successful, they are not. Because each time success stares them in the face and through an obstacle in their path, they see the possibility of failure and move on to something else. Never knowing what would have happened once they would have passed the obstacle. Making them think they succeeded because they avoided failure.
And what if they failed? Want would change? Their knowledge would change. They would have the experience to face similar obstacles and overcome them. Their mind would shift into a positive space. They would say ‘’bring it on, I can run that 4-minute mile and nothing will stop me. It will start to create forward momentum.
Going all in is within reach of everyone. Going all in will make the difference between reaching or not your objectives. This full commitment and change of Mindset that occurs when we go all in, has a powerful effect on us. It lifts us past the failures along our journey and helps us grow mentally. Going all in drives us towards our ‘’why’’.
We all have goals we would like to reach in our lives. We all have that vision of the perfect life for ourselves. Please, GO ALL IN and reap the rewards of doing so.
