Are you waiting for motivation? Well, you will be waiting forever!
Motivation will not push you forward to accomplish anything. You want to run 5 km, you want to walk up to a person you admire, you want to get out of bed early in the morning, you want to ask for a raise, you want to read more, you want to start a business, motivation will never come.
What separates you from accomplishing anything in your life is … a decision. The only step you need to take, is make a decision. Get up or stay in bed, that’s a decision. Run 5k or watch TV, that’s a decision. Walk up to that person you like, that’s a decision. Ask for that raise, that’s a decision. Read more and educate yourself, that’s a decision. Starting that business, you’ve been thinking about for so long … that’s a DECISION.
We are programmed, it’s in our DNA to protect ourselves from the unknown, from what seems dangerous, from what doesn’t feel right. Will I walk into that cage with a lion, hell no I won’t. Will I stand and speak up in a meeting, nope I instantly freeze up. The alarm rings in the morning and I need to get out of bed, no I don’t feel like it. A lot of people relate to this.
We let our feelings take control of our lives. We wait until we feel like it. Feelings take over when too much time is taken to make that decision. That’s when the protective mechanism that is prewired in our DNA, kicks in. When that alarm rings in the morning, no one FEELS like getting out of bed. “’I’m comfy here between the sheets. It’s too dark or cold if I slip out from under the covers. Another 15mins won’t hurt. I don’t feel like getting up“. We all go through this each and every morning. We don’t want to get up. We wait until it feels right. It will never feel right, you are comfortable, that feels right and you stay in bed.
You would like to take a walk, go training or do a physical activity. The minute it’s time to put on those running shoes. The moment your spouse asks you to go training with her. Often you wait until you feel like it and the feeling never comes. But when you do, how often do you say ‘’wow, I’m happy you pushed me to go take a walk with you, it feels great“ of something like ‘’I’m glad I went training, I feel awesome”. You never have that feeling before doing of starting something. That is why that decision is so important. Once you do take the decision to go walk, that is when the feel-good moment kicks in. That feel good moment comes from your brain releasing endorphins … the ‘’FELL GOOD“ chemicals.
You want to get things done or accomplish the goals you would like to attain? Take that step forward and make that decision that will put into motion the actions required to accomplish any action or goal. What stands between getting up in the morning or staying in bed, is a decision. What keeps you from getting that raise, is a decision. It’s not a huge mountain in front of you when you try to plan your next actions to reach a goal, it is just one decision.
A decision at a time will make you reach new heights. Whether it be personal or professional, you are one decision away to accomplish anything. And this decision-making becomes addictive over time. It stimulates your mind and your body. The ‘’Feel Good“ chemicals that your brain releases will increase. A sense of accomplishment will surround you.
So stop waiting for that feeling or motivation to do something. You are only ONE decision away to accomplish anything in life. Don’t hit snooze, get up, you will have a great day!
