Take Control of your Time
Take Control of your Time.
Have you every felt overwhelmed at the end of the day just to look back on what you have accomplished, and noticed nothing was checked off your to-do list? Or the tasks you completed where the easy ones, those that involved very little effort but consumed much of your time?
So many end their day with the feeling of not having moved forward towards their goals. They had a very busy day. In fact, not a free minute was available. They ran constantly to do all sorts of things.
‘’I’m so busy.’’
There lay the answer to the problem: Are you prioritizing your day towards accomplishing your set goals for that day? You do all sorts of things:
Emails were replied to promptly.
All phone calls were answered.
Anyone who came to your office with a request was given an audience.
Any new task put forth was given priority over what was planned.
The feeling of always being out of breath at the end of day is not a great way to live. You put in overtime just trying to complete all your tasks. Your energy is drained from you each and every day. Do this for repeated days, weeks and months and it will wear you down. You are going nowhere fast. You run around in circles.
Why do you put yourself through this? No one deserves this lifestyle, but some continuously push themselves in this destructive pattern. Their personal and professional lives start to deteriorate in front of them.
Let’s try something different today. Get into the habit of planning your day the moment you get up in the morning. Write down the 4 or 5 things you must do in your day. Not more than 4 to 5 things or else you won’t do them all. Check them off as you go. Always start with the most time-consuming and most important task. ‘’Eat the frog first’’ Then move on to the next task only when completed. If you need more then 30 minutes to accomplish a task, stop after 25 minutes. Take a break and walk away from your desk. Don’t use this time to do other things. Just empty your mind and relax. Then get back to work and finish what you started. Check it off your list and move on to the next task.
No phone, no emails, no Facebook, no Twitter or YouTube. Close your office door or just say no to anyone wanting to waste your time. Suddenly your to-do list will disappear before your eyes. You will be starring at a checklist with everything ticked off. Fulfilment will overwhelm you. You will also discover all this free time on your hands.
Spending your days running around and always feeling out of breath will be a thing of the past. No more overtime or working from home to finish your job. You will not rob yourself of quality time to spend with your family and loved ones.
Huge benefits will result from this. Time will reveal itself to you. New projects will present themselves to you. No task will drag on for days. Your productivity will skyrocket without feeling out of breath.
These changes applied on a daily basis are the foundation of any accomplishment. Put these principles into action and be disciplined, focusing on that list. The moment you stray away, you will need to rebuild your momentum. So by looking at each task as a step on a ladder, you will find yourself climbing and before you know it, you are at the top.
The ‘’Power List’’ is an awesome tool to get in front of your success. Do this each and every day, for personal or professional goals. You will end each day with nothing left on your plate and move on to the next. Take control of your time!
