Time, the most precious commodity you have
Time the most precious commodity you have
From the day you were born to the day you die only one constant will never be changing. It will always be the factor that will elevate you or bring you down. You cannot put it aside, you cannot store it for later use, you cannot take it with you for safe keeping, you cannot buy it, you cannot barter for more of it, it’s just there and each second that passes is the second you will never see again…TIME.
We go through life gaining knowledge, growing our fortune and finding new ways to make more money and more friends. We travel to all sorts of places in the world. We have gold, silver, precious stones, a house with a closet full of clothes you barely ever wear. We accumulate so much material things without ever thinking that we may be missing something or losing something. Slowing dripping away.
You see, always lurking in the background, is this ever fleeting precious thing that’s called time. Time is the most precious commodity you will ever have in your possession. It doesn’t cost a thing and nobody can give you any.
We do not know the amount of time we have. We’re not born with a clock around our neck counting down the remaining hours we have left in our lives. We get up and we go through our days without ever thinking about it. We don’t even pay attention. Then someday something happens, good or bad, to you or someone close to you, and then suddenly time starts to disappear. Everything becomes precious. The hours in a day are not enough.
Don’t wait for that someday. Look at every day in a new light. Take the time you have and spend it wisely. We all have years in front of us. Please don’t take that for granted.
From the time you get up in the morning to the time you go to bed, each and every second, minute and hour that passes in the day, is what defines you as a person. The time we have in our possession defines our lives.
The next time you walk out the door to go to work stop for a second, turn around, look at your loved one another time before you leave, those are the seconds you will always cherish and remember. Take the time and find a reason to pick up the phone and call dad or call mom, just to say hi, just to say I love you. Devote time to your children. Smile to a friend or a colleague for no reason. You own those precious moments. Use them wisely. Moments like these will forever be with you. It doesn’t cost a thing to talk about anything for a few seconds.
So often we look at our life and measure it’s worth based on accomplishments, wealth or material things. At the end of your life when you reflect back on all the time spend on various things, only time spend on loving, helping being with the ones you love will remain with you.
There’s only one yesterday and there is only one tomorrow but there is forever todays. Today let’s you take control of what brings meaning to your life. Today is what you decide to do with your time. Forget yesterday that’s in the past and forget tomorrow it’s time you don’t know you have. There is only constant and only one truth, today the time you have is yours and yours alone. You are the only one who can decide what to do with it. And when you go to sleep at night close your eyes and dream of the day that has just passed because tomorrow is a brand new day, a brand new gift of time that you will receive and it’s up to you to make sure you use it wisely. Allow yourself to use it in a way that will make you grow personally.
What would you do if you woke up in the morning to discover that you only have a very limited amount of time left to live? What if that was 30 days let’s say? You would definitely plan your day out in a very different way. Time would become so precious. That phone call to mom and dad would happen each day. That game your kids want you to play with them would become and adventure. The ‘’I Love You’’ or kiss to the one you love would take on a whole new meaning.
For everybody around you, this change will seem odd at first but will quickly transform into smiles and appreciation that will not only change you but also change them at the same time.
Forget the ticking of the clock. The hands on the clock that keep moving forward will not be seen as a countdown to the end but the start of a new day full of fulfillment, happiness and joy.
Take the time, your time, to do what your heart tells you to do. Do something crazy funny. Change your usual routine to something new. You will discover a new you. I can definitely say that you will unearth the person that you will smile at when you look back and ask yourself in the mirror.
You have spent your time wisely my friend.
